די דאזיגע דאקומענטן זענען אויף ענגליש — די ענגלישע ווערסיע איז די בינדנדע.
This Privacy Policy explains what information Daily Simchas (“we,” “us,” or “our”) collects when you use dailysimchas.com and related services, how we use it, and the choices you have. We built the Service for our own community, and we treat the information on it the way we would want our own family’s information treated.
The short version
- We do not run ads, ad trackers, or third-party analytics.
- We do not sell your information — not to anyone, not for anything.
- We never see your card number; payments are handled by Stripe.
- Listings are public by design; everything else is private to you and us.
- If a listing is about your family and you did not authorize it, one report takes it off the board immediately.
1. Information you give us
- Account details — your email address, and your name and profile picture if you sign in with Google. We use one-time email codes and Google sign-in; we never store a password.
- Listings — everything you type into a posting: family names, the type of simcha, date, time, and venue (including an address, if you provide one), plus any flyer you upload. Listings are public — see section 5.
- Preferences — language, digest time and channel, chosen boards, and notification settings.
- Reports and feedback — what you write when you report a listing or send feedback, and the contact details you choose to include. Report contact details are visible only to administrators.
2. Information collected automatically
When you use the Service we record standard technical data: your IP address and browser (user agent) when you sign in, post a listing, send a report, or send feedback. We keep this to prevent abuse — it is how we investigate unauthorized or fraudulent postings — and we redact it on a schedule (section 7). If you enable push notifications, we store the subscription your browser creates. If you use the address search when posting, your browser may share your approximate location to sort suggestions; we do not store it.
3. Cookies
We use only functional, first-party cookies: one that keeps you signed in and one that remembers your language. We do not use advertising or tracking cookies, and we do not use third-party analytics. Because of this, there is no cookie consent banner — there is nothing to opt out of.
4. How we use information, and who helps us
We use the information above to run the board: publishing listings, signing you in, sending the digests and reminders you choose, processing payments, preventing abuse, and responding to reports. We share information only with service providers who process it on our behalf, under their own confidentiality obligations, and only as needed to operate the Service:
- Payment processing — Stripe handles all card payments. Your card details go directly to Stripe and never touch our servers.
- Google sign-in — if you choose it, Google shares your name, email, and profile picture with us to create your account. We do not access anything else in your Google account.
- Infrastructure providers — companies that deliver our email, host our servers and database, store uploaded flyers and backups, protect the site from bots, and report errors so we can fix them.
We may also disclose information if the law requires it, or to protect the safety and rights of our users and the Service. We do not sell personal information, and we do not share it for advertising.
5. Listings are public — and families stay in control
The whole point of a listing is to be seen: it appears on the public board, in email digests and notifications, and in previews when someone shares the link. Please post only what the family is comfortable making public.
Every poster confirms that the simcha is their own family’s or that the family authorized the posting. If a listing concerns your family and you did not authorize it, open the listing and tap “מעלדן א פראבלעם מיט די שמחה” — a report that the family did not authorize the posting takes the listing off the board immediately, before any human review. You can also contact us directly and we will remove it promptly, no questions asked. Listings at private homes are excluded from the sitemap we give search engines.
6. Payments
When you buy a paid feature, Stripe processes the charge and tells us it succeeded. We keep a record of what was purchased, for which listing, and Stripe’s reference numbers — enough to deliver the feature, send a receipt, and handle refunds. We never receive or store your card number.
7. How long we keep things
- Listings — stay in our database after the event (removed or cancelled listings are not shown publicly). A cancelled or removed listing’s flyer is deleted from public storage right away.
- IP addresses and browser data — redacted 180 days after a posting, and 90 days after a report is resolved or feedback is sent.
- Reporter contact details — redacted 90 days after the report is resolved.
- Email delivery logs — deleted after one year.
- Backups — encrypted database backups are kept for 30 days, then deleted.
8. Your choices
- Email — every digest email has an unsubscribe link, and you can change or turn off digests any time in Settings. Sign-in codes and receipts are sent only when you request them.
- Push notifications — enabled only if you turn them on; disable them in Settings or in your browser.
- Your listings — you can edit or cancel your own listings any time from “My simchas.”
- Delete your account — in Settings. Deletion takes your listings off the board and permanently removes your sign-in details, email, notification subscriptions, and Google connection. Records we must keep (such as payment records and moderation history) are retained in anonymized form.
- Access and correction — contact us via the feedback form to ask what information we hold about you or to correct it.
9. Children
The Service is for adults — you must be 18 or older to have an account. Listings naturally mention children (a bris or bar mitzvah is a child’s simcha); that information is posted by adult family members or people the family authorized, and it is removed at the family’s request as described in section 5. We do not knowingly collect information directly from children.
10. Security
We use industry-standard safeguards: connections are encrypted, sign-in uses one-time codes rather than stored passwords, access to administrative tools is restricted, and backups are stored privately. No online service can promise perfect security, but if a breach ever affects your information we will notify you as the law requires.
11. Where the Service operates
Daily Simchas is operated from the United States and intended for a U.S. audience. If you use it from elsewhere, your information is processed in the United States.
12. Changes to this policy
If we change this policy we will post the new version here with a new effective date, and for material changes we will notify account holders by email or a notice on the site.
13. Contact us
Use the feedback form. We read everything.
